Auditions: Gurney’s “Later Life” in Pound Ridge
Posted by: Peter D. Kramer – Posted in Auditions on Jan 17, 2011
The Pound Ridge Theatre Company holds auditions for A.R. Gurney’s “Later Life,” directed by Sherry Asch, Feb. 15 and 16 at 7 p.m. at Conant Hall, 255 Westchester Ave., Pound Ridge. Performance dates are April 29, 30, May 1, 5, 6, 7, 8, 12, 13, 14.
Here, from the audition notice, is a plot synopsis: “A divorced man happens to reconnect with an old flame at a party on a terrace overlooking Boston Harbor. He is unable to risk making a definitive move towards the woman who in the past and again tonight might offer him a more vital future. As the exuberant life of the party swirls around him, many guests are coming and going, interrupting, bickering, explaining, but always committed to living their lives, even as our hesitant hero seems unwilling or unable to change his own. In Gurney’s own words, the play is “a celebration of human possibilities and a sympathetic portrayal of those who will forever remain outside the party, frozen into playing only one part all their lives.”
